Learn

Place に after the destination: 学校がっこう に 行いきます means “I’m going to school.” English puts “to” before the place; Japanese puts に after it.

Use this pattern with movement verbs such as 行いく (“go”), 来くる (“come”), and 帰かえる (“return home”). The destination comes before the verb. どこ に 行いきます か asks “Where are you going?”

Examples

  • Ken goes to school.

  • I’m going home.

  • Maria is coming to the park.

  • Where are you going?
