Saying how often

Describe your habits: always, often, sometimes, or every day.

Learn

These expressions describe how often something happens. They do not conjugate, and in the basic sentences here you can use them without adding a particle.

いつも
よく
時々(ときどき)
毎日(まいにち)

Put them before the verb, often after the topic: 私わたし は いつも コーヒー を 飲のみます. English can put “every day” at the end, as in “I listen to music every day.” For this Japanese pattern, keep the verb at the end instead.

Examples

  • I always drink coffee.

  • Ken often watches movies.

  • I sometimes eat fish.

  • I listen to music every day.
